Begin

*Ahem.*

Good day. Or evening. Whichever it may be for you.

Isn't there a funny difference between the phrases 'good evening' and 'good night'? Their denotation is the same, but their connotation is completely different. Hello and goodbye.

I just said "good night" to the semester I spent living in Europe (partially chronicled here), which became (in both denotation and connotation) a home to me. I spent a few days in Paris, two weeks in Venice, and the rest of the stay in Aix-en-Provence, southern France. Previously, I had lived in the same city in Ohio for the entirety of my two decades of life - but I came to know Aix almost as well as my hometown. I'd like to think that I know Aix better than some of the "natives," even, because I came with an alternate background.

And really, that's my reason for starting this blog. Aix became a home to me, so I  am no longer a pure-blooded, modern native of the United States and its culture. I approach it now with a slightly different perspective, because my background was changed by France and Guatemala. I don't say this in an uppity, upper-class sort of way; heck, I only got to Europe because of federal financial aid. In many ways I'm only a normal college student. Thus, this blog will contain my observations of daily life, culture, media, and other such stuffs here - back home. I invite you to debate and discuss :)
